skating-rink at Ambawadi where trained coaches conduct skating classes regularly.
Anand Melas, excursions, tours, picnics etc.. are regularly planned and conducted and are a compulsory part of Amrit-Jyoti’s all around
education.
Independance day, School’s Birthday, Teacher’s Day, Sports Day, etc.. are some major functions celebrated by the school.
Promotion:
At Amrit Jyoti the children are encouraged to learn with joy and enthusiasm using the latest western methods and materials and integrating them
with Eastern wisdom. Special attention is paid to physical, intellectual, mental, social and spiritual needs of the children.Hence
yogasans,Massaging,Horse Riding,Ayurved, cookery, meditation etc. are taught from a very young age.The school is not merely concerned with
academics but with the overall development of the children.
A system of assessment has been devised to evaluate the total development of each child in all aspects. This assessment grade is achieved
through a system which aims at minimizing ugly competition among children as well as among parents. As it is an allround grade it encourages
children to develop in whatever field they have a special aptitude, while at the same time they are made aware and helped to come forward in
whatever field or subject they are weak.
The promotions of each child is decided on the cumulative average of academic and extra-curricular activities as well as personality development
as per the following tests and exams:
- 1st terminal exam
- 2nd terminal exam
- Weekly surprise tests / unit tests
- Home-work and class-work / assignments / projects / self-study / Internal Assessments
- Condition of text-books /school diary and note books
- Final examination
Each child’s progress is personally observed in academics, extra curricular activities and personality development by the teachers and presented
to the parents / guardians in the form of report card.
Leave or Absence:
Students will not easily be granted leave for social occasions as they are “vidyarthis” and their primary duty is to study well.Parents may have to
attend social occasions as they have to fulfil their duties as householders, but students do not always have to accompany them.In school they are
taught to put in the ‘tapas’ of foregoing such occasions for their own bright future. As it is, the schools usually have three big vacations-
Summer,Diwali and Christmas-plus all the other Bank and religious holidays and parents should plan their vacation to coincide with the school
vacations.
- A student failing to be promoted will not be granted for the ensuring year, any concession in fees, and may even be advised to leavethe school. If a student fails twice he/she will have to discontinue his/her studies in the school.
- Promotions refused will not be reconsidered.
- The decision of the school authorities regarding promotions is final, and shall be binding upon the parents.
Recommended Food List:
The aim of Amrit Jyoti School is to make the children healthy in body, mind and spirit. The last two are acquired through a good education. The
health of the body can be improved and sustained by nutritious food. The parents are therefore asked to send the children with lunches which are
high in nutrition.Fried foods,hot-foods and sweets must not be included in the children’s lunches, pickles, chutneys and pungent foods are not
allowed. The following is a suggested list to help the parents pick out the best of foods:
- All kinds of nuts and seeds,Grams(chana),cashew nuts, walnuts, coconuts, sesame seeds etc.

Birthday Celebration:
It has come to the attention of the school that inspite of the motto of the school, “Simple Living and High Thinking” some parents, in order to
make a show of their wealth, have been celebrating their children’s birthday lavishly. A lot of money is spent on posh presents which end up as a
double loss….. Waste of hard-earned money and spoiling the children. Giving and receiving presents is an adult idea as it amounts to the system
of barter. In Gujarati it is called ‘VYAVHAR’ where presents received on an occasion are returned, as equally as possible to the party at the time
of their occasion….. Marriage, birthday-party, etc. This is an adult practice and superimposition of this on little children, especially of pre-
primary and lower primary-age children is not correct. Little children enjoy sweets, balloons, games, shows which are usually arranged at parties,
and hence they do not hanker after some other presents. If we as adults condition them to the fact that we should be greedy over and above the
enjoyment, we should also expect presents then it is our mistaken thinking. We have no right to impose wrong ideas on our little ones.
The innocence of childhood seeks only simple pleasures- a ball, a flower, a smooth stone, a colourful leaf, a puppy or a kitten playing, a
colourful scarf or a handkerchief, etc. which gives hours of happiness to little ones. The adult mentality of imposing monetary value on these
things is very wrong. It amounts to snatching away their childhood which should be carefree and full of fun and frolic.
We do expect, from the highly enlightened parent-body of Amrit-Jyoti, full Co-operation in this matter of re-establishing the innocent joys of
childhood and abolishing the commercial presents exchange system.
Clothing:
A lot has been written recently about the benefits of cotton clothing especially for little children. Cotton clothing is cool, comfortable and light,
and more healthy and hygienic as it absorbs perspiration. Hence children should be sent with colourful cotton clothes.
Again, a lot of research has come out regarding the il leffects of mixed fabrics such as polyester, terene, terrylene,Nylon etc. all of which have a
very bad effect on the sensitive skins of little children. Rashes, eczemas, allergies and skin-irritations have often been attributed to mixed fabric
clothes.
Stone washed jeans too have been proven to be harmful to children’s skin for three reasons: Firstly, the dye used in jeans is so harmful that even
when it is thrown out in the rivers in a diluted form, it has been known to kill fish and other water life.
Secondly, such clothing is so tight that it does not permit free breathing causing a lot of harm to the delicate skins of little ones.
Thirdly, such fabrics are so closely woven and hence are so thick that they do not allow any circulation of air .Little children need thin and light
clothing for free and easy movement.
Hence parents should avoid such hazardous clothing for their little ones so that they may feel cool and comfortable and remain healthy.
Simple Living and High Thinking:
It has come to our attention that some parents have been sending their daughters with heavy gold or diamond ear-rings . A couple of times girls
have been sent with long dangling ear-ring with the result that once or twice their ear-rings got caught in another child’s clothing and the child’s
ear were saved because of the teacher’s alertness and the presence of mind.Secondly, as these are rough times, it is to be expected that thefts,
kidnapping and holding children at ransom may increase, hence the school authorities have decided that no girl students will be allowed to come
to school with fancy diamond or heavy gold ear-rings and other ornaments. Gold finger-rings and gold bangles will not be permitted at all. Silver
anklets and real necklace too will not be allowed.
Pre-Primary girls and lower primary (1-4) girls are allowed to wear gold buttons (tops) admeasuring 0.2 to 0.3 centimetres in diameter. Higher
Primary and High school girls (stds. 5 to 10) will be allowed gold tops admeasuring 0.3 to 0.6 centimetres. Small gold wire ear-ring too are
permitted as long as they are short.
Amrit Jyoti parents are reminded of the fact that “Simple Living and High Thinking” is being taught to the students right from the nursery class. If
students are made to realise that virtues (such as Honesty, Justice-orientation, Kindness, Truthfulness, integrity, hard work etc.) are the true
ornaments and no other decoration is needed if students have the above, then we as educationalists and you as parents would have truly taught
the children the right value system.
We solicit your co-operation in this serious matter of teaching high values to the students.
Tuitions:
Some parents are in the habit of approaching the teachers of the school directly for private tuitions. This is very wrong practice and the school
authorities will take strict action against the parents and the teachers alike.
From the very beginning, at the time of admission, the parents are informed that in this school tuitions are neither allowed nor encouraged. Inspite
of this, if a student is found weak, the parents can approach the authorities and if possible, some arrangement for group coaching can be made.
In this way neither the teacher nor the parents are exploited. The fees are moderate enough for each parent to be able to afford and the students
study happily in small groups. The school authorities too can keep an eye on the student’s progress.
A few parents cannot be permitted to spoil the whole academic environment. They will have to understand that one to one ratio is not always the
best thing for a child. Being social beings students always love to study with their peer group. Besides private tuitions breed the possibilities of
such unhealthy trends as partiality, leaking of papers etc., which we at Amrit Jyoti wish to avoid at all costs.
Amrit -Jyoti parents will have to help the school in avoiding the tuition-racket which has grown out of proportion in many schools. The school
will be more than happy to help you out, if you have any problems.
Skating:
All those who have opted for skating as an activity should bring their skates regularly on their activity days.
If the parents want to deposit the skates in the lockers provided by the school, they will have to get the student’s name embossed on the skates
and put them in a cloth bag.
School will not be responsible for any complaints regarding loss of skates, if they are not deposited in the school lockers. Please submit the
skates within a week.
Handwriting Practice:
Hand writing is indeed a vital and important tool in the hands of students. A note-book or an answer-paper written in clear, lucid, legible and good
writing attracts and pleases the examiner. On the other hand an untidy, badly-written unclear paper, inspite of good contents, puts off the
examiner who may find, it very difficult to decipher, such terrible writing.
So as good parents you should insist that your child writes one page daily in the languages (English, Gujarati, Hindi) in which your child’s writing
is not so good. This practice will pay high dividends in your child’s result.
Dignity of labour:
Dignity of labour was emphasized and practised by the Father of our Nation “Gandhiji” , It has been found that this practice is not followed by
many of us these days.
Since Amrit-Jyoti believes in keeping up high values, we train our students to practise dignity of labour, Duties will be given to your child after
school hours on rotation basis for 15 days for 15 min. Parents are requested to co-operate with the school & inform the rickshawalas, 15
days schedule will be given to the students in their diaries.
Counting on Fingers:
This is to inform you that students should not count on the fingers for addition, subtraction etc. It is an easy and lazy way which does not allow
the students to naturally memorize the combinations of addition and subtraction. Students are taught to work them out with objects and materials
many many times over. So as to have clear concepts of the same . By repeated activity, children learn to commit the combinations to memory
spontaneously. Then mental Calculations are easy and will help the students in difficult mathematical exercises in future.
